Dedicated to my family

If anyone goes to Belwood from Kandy has to pass Ampitiya, Talathuoya and Moragolla towns. The village is surrounded by tea estates, thick jungles, pine trees and small water streams.

Belwood village was famous among Sri Lanka not because of the scenic view, it because of the Aesthetic Centre (Saundharya Nikethanaya) which situated in Belwood tea factory which was very popular during the colonial era. The legend says the owner of the factory used a huge bell which was made of wood. The wooden bell was used to notify workers about their duty hours, lunch and the tea break. Later the tea factory was named the Belwood tea factory.

Our journey was started from Talathuoya around 9 a.m. & reach to Belwood around 9.30 a.m. Transport was a three-wheeler. There is a Bus from Kandy to Delthota through Belwood in the morning time, also more busses from Kandy to Moragolla & there are three-wheelers from Moragolla too.

Our guide was SUGATH (+94 77 6631089) who is a famous three-wheeler owner in Talathuoya & very honest & friendly person also with good knowledge about the places near Belwood.

Places around there are suddenly clouded in the morning & evening time. Climate is instantly changed. You should have something to cover your body from cooled wind. Also better to have something for leeches such as Sidhalepa, Soap etc...

There is a Thiriwana Stone crushing place closed to Belwood & you can visit the place with the approval obtain from the factory owner. Thiriwana Stones are used for making Glasses, Porcelain items.

There are ranges of mountain close to the village with picturesque view. It’s a nice place to having hiking experience.

We spent two three hours from there & came back toward Moragolla & turned right to Kirimetiya waththa. There is a beautiful lake in upper division of Kirimetiya waththa. (It’s nearly 3 km from Moragolla)  The lake is too deep & risks having a bath. It’s surrounded with Pine trees & grassland.

Most of the villager’s upper divisions in Kirimetiya Waththa are Tamil peoples who are farming vegetables & handling animal farm. Hindu temple is there for doing religious activities for the villagers.

Belwood & the surrounded places are really help to reduce our day-to-day stress. It was a nice experience & invites you to have this marvelous experience and feel the beauty of our mother land.
